SMM, January 8: Today, spot copper in North China was quoted at a discount of 180-60 yuan/mt against the front-month contract, with an average discount of 120 yuan/mt, down 50 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Transaction prices ranged from 74,230 to 74,420 yuan/mt, with an average price of 74,325 yuan/mt, up 145 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. During the week, the center of copper prices moved higher, coupled with seasonally weak consumption. Additionally, no stockpiling sentiment has been heard from downstream buyers, leading to poor market demand and weaker spot premiums/discounts.
